The Difference Between Self-Esteem And Self-Confidence

Having some kind of self worth is important—and without having a healthy sense of self worth, you pretty much don't feel good about yourself. Feeling good about your makes it easier to live life. Without having such a positive outlook on your life, it's easy to become unmotivated, disinterested and even depressed over time. Learning about self worth is a matter of understanding the difference between both self esteem and self confidence.

The Difference Between Self-Esteem And Self-Confidence

Self confidence, as an example, is known as the ability to know that you can successfully achieve something. People with a high level of self confidence feel they can achieve anything if they try hard enough; in contrast, people without such confidence usually feel discouraged from trying anything at all.

Self esteem is the way we perceive ourselves on the deepest level of our consciousness. It's more or less the act of liking and loving ourselves. People can actually possess a lot of self confidence, but have little to no self esteem. If you don't like or love yourself, you likely have low self esteem. It's important to have a high amount of self esteem, since a lot of people without do develop anxieties and even depression.

The difference between the two is simple, though difficult for most to understand. We're going to break down both concepts, to make it simple:

Self confidence involves the things and/or actions you do and how you do them.

Self esteem involves how you see yourself in all aspects of your lifestyle.

You can have high self confidence, as mentioned, but low self esteem—likewise with the opposite. If you believe you can do something, you're likely confident about what you can do and how you do it. Even though you have a lower amount of self worth, that same thing or task you can do is something you're incredibly sure about doing.

When it comes to self esteem, you can feel great about yourself, but not so great about the things you can do. Though people place a large importance on maintaining a healthy sense of self worth, some might want to feel better about performing well when doing something as simple as delivering a speech.

Even though you can have one without the other, the most successful and self assured people possess both. Developing both self esteem and self confidence doesn't come without taking the time to evaluate yourself on a personal level. If you can understand why and how self esteem and confidence affects you, you can eventually work on building it up over time.
